iPhone 12 lineup is just a few months old and we’re nowhere close to the launch of the iPhone 13 lineup. It will presumably come in the fall of 2021. But we’ve been hearing leaks about the devices coming in 2021.
The 2021 iPhone lineup will look similar to the 2020 iPhone lineup. It will come with four devices in sizes that include 5.4-inches, 6.1-inches, and 6.7-inches, with two of the iPhones being higher-end “Pro” models and two comparatively more affordable devices.
The devices include one 6.7-inch “iPhone 13 Pro Max” model, one 6.1-inch “iPhone 13 Pro,” one 6.1-inch “iPhone 13,” and one 5.4-inch “iPhone 13 mini” model.
Apple has also considered removing the charging port for some iPhone models in favor of wireless charging. Looks like Apple is going to ditch the lightning connector for charging and might completely depend on wireless charging for all the phones releasing in 2021.
Apple is testing an in-screen Touch ID fingerprint reader. This will mark a major change to the biometric systems that Apple has used for its flagship devices.
The fingerprint sensor would be made available in addition to Face ID. It will be convenient for iPhone users who cannot unlock their iPhones with facial recognition when using masks.
The next-generation iPhones’ Face ID system will see some design changes. The size of the notch at the top of the screen will shrink, the sources said.
The new design integrates Rx, Tx, and flood illuminator into the same camera module, similar to that of a LiDAR scanner in the back camera module, to enable smaller notch sizes, the sources stated.
Though the iPhone 12 doesn’t have a 120Hz ProMotion display. Now, rumors are indicating that 2021’s iPhone 13 lineup may finally introduce the feature. This will be the next major advancement in display technology on the iPhone.
To implement a 120Hz refresh rate on the iPhone, Apple needs to adopt LTPO display technology. Which is recently used by Oneplus 9 Pro. Apple Watch Series 5 and Series 6 models already use LTPO displays which helps them to have better battery life.
Now, reports about the company’s upcoming Apple A15 Bionic chip are making rounds. The technology giant is again partnering with manufacturer TSMC to push for ever smaller nodes for the upcoming processor.
According to the new report from TrendForce, the next-generation smartphone processor from Apple, which is expected to be named A15 Bionic, will be manufactured using the 5nm+ processor, which is called N5P.
DigiTimes‘ sources claim that the iPhone 13 Pro models will feature a larger CMOS Image Sensor (CIS) bringing “resolution improvements,” while the non-Pro models will inherit the CIS used in the iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. Sony will supply the CIS, the sources said.
One more important thing is iPhone 13 lineup will feature sensor-shift optical image stabilization. “Until now, sensor‑shift stabilization was only on DSLR cameras,” says Apple’s website. Whether you’re shooting video of your kids or holding your iPhone out the window on a bumpy road, you’ll get more precise stabilization than ever.”
The newest information from the leak points toward the ability to take portrait videos as well as Astrophotography capabilities on this year’s iPhone.
Apple’s 2021 iPhone lineup to be unveiled in the fall of 2021, with the company likely aiming to return to its traditional September launch timeline.
