The All New OnePlus 9 Pro 5G to come with adaptive 120Hz LTPO display
Tipster Max Jambor has revealed that the all-new Oneplus 9 Pro 5G will feature an LTPO (low-temperature polycrystalline oxide) OLED display, much like the Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra.
From previous leaks, we know that the OnePlus 9 Pro will have a 6.78 inch 1440+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate. Hands-on photos of the phone even showed the mode selection screen, which allows you to pick the resolution and refresh rate. But it turns out this isn’t everything there is to know about the 9 Pro’s screen.
The presence of LTPO tech on OnePlus’ next flagship is important. Because it means the display will automatically adjust its refresh rate based on the content that’s being shown.
For example, a mobile game that supports a higher refresh rate will see the display run at the maximum 120Hz refresh rate. A still photo, on the other hand, might see it drop down to as low as 10Hz. Visually, this upgrade won’t make much of a difference. But the use of LTPO lets users squeeze more juice out of the OnePlus 9 Pro’s 4,500mAh battery.
What exactly is this LPTO?
Low-Temperature Polycrystalline Oxid, or LTPO, is an OLED display backplane technology developed by Apple. LTPO combines both LTPS TFTs and Oxide TFTS (IGZO, Indium Gallium Zinc Oxide). LTPO is applicable for both OLED and LCD displays. But this backplane technology is likely to be used exclusively in high-end OLED displays
What else we are getting in the OnePlus 9 Pro 5G?
The OnePlus 9 series is on track to be announced next month. Aside from the upgraded display, the OnePlus 9 Pro features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 888 and up to 12GB of RAM.
It’ll also ship with Android 11 on board and support 45Watt fast wireless charging, as well as 65W wired charging. Other features reportedly include IP68 water and dust resistance rating and Hasselblad-branded cameras.
